DO I NEED A VISA?
For Non-European learners, the requirements to enter Ireland are different for each nationality. For full and complete information on visa requirements please following links:
WHAT COURSES OR PROGRAMMES CAN A NON-EEA NATIONAL STUDY IN IRELAND?
If you are a non-EEA national coming to study in Ireland you must be enrolled in a full-time course or programme on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP).
In order to be granted student permission in Ireland, you must enrol on a full-time day time programme. Part-time or distance learning courses do not qualify for student permission.
WHAT IMMIGRATION PERMISSION CAN I GET AS A STUDENT ON A FULL-TIME ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMME?
A student on a full-time English language course listed on the ILEP may be granted an immigration permission of up to 33 Weeks / 8 months.
HOW LONG CAN A STUDENT STAY IN IRELAND STUDYING ENGLISH LANGUAGE FULL-TIME?
A student may be granted immigration permission for a maximum of three English language programmes of 8 months duration each. The total duration of immigration permission for a new student attending English language programmes is two years (i.e. three x 8 months). You will need to provide your end-of-programme exam results and meet attendance requirements in order to renew your permission each time. If you wish to stay on as a student after that time you must enrol on a higher education programme listed on the ILEP.
WHAT PROGRAMMES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE ILEP?
The ILEP includes the following types of programmes or courses:
• English language programmes
• Higher education programmes
• Professional awards
• Foundation programmes
Students are advised to research the provider and programme before enrolling. The ILEP does not guarantee the quality of the provider, however, providers listed on the ILEP must meet certain criteria and standards. Providers must have learner protection for enrolled non-EEA students and cannot accept fees in cash. Before making any purchase, students should assess what is on offer, the reputation of the institution and its facilities and be aware the lowest price may not necessarily be the best deal. A provider must list all costs in advance, including exam fees.
DO I NEED TO REGISTER MY PERMISSION TO BE IN THE STATE?
Yes, all non-EEA students, including those who do not require a visa, must register with their local immigration office to remain in Ireland for more than 90 days.
HOW I DO REGISTRATION WITH IMMIGRATION?
NON-EU Visa Free or required Countries’ learners must book an appointment. Your appointment should be scheduled 2/3 weeks after the start of your classes and no more than 180 days after your arrival in Ireland.

Yes, the registration fee is €300.

DO I NEED TO HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO SUPPORT MYSELF?
Yes, you need to show us that you have enough money to pay your programme fees and all other living expenses while you are in Ireland.
If you need a visa to come to Ireland, you will be asked to show proof of your financial resources by the visa authorities. Details of these requirements can be found at the following link: Information on Student Finances
If you don’t need a visa to travel to Ireland, you will be asked to show proof of your financial resources at time of registration. Details of these requirements can be found at the following link: Requirements and documents needed
You could also provide a valid credit or debit card with that amount of money available in the account.
If you have any further questions in relation to the cost of living as a student in Ireland, we would encourage you to liaise directly with the college, we will try to advise you as appropriate.
HOW CAN I PROVE MY POCKET MONEY NORMALLY AT DUBLIN AIRPORT?
Cash: This is a widely used option, as the rates are lower. On the other hand, it may not be the safest, as there is the risk of losing the money.
Travel Money Card: An international prepaid debit card. You can use this for payments and withdrawals at banks and ATMs abroad. Contact your bank for more information.
Bank statement from your country: Students can prove the funds with a bank statement from their country of origin once they have the equivalent amount. A detailed bank statement is recommended. The Immigration office requires that the statement be dated within a month prior to the appointment.
European Online Bank Accounts: You can also use bank statements from European online banks such as Revolut, N26 and Leopay, for example. Subject to change.
COMING IN IRELAND AND STUDY WITH LIFFEY COLLEGE
LIFFEY COLLEGE COVERED BY LEARNER PROTECTION ARRANGEMENTS?
All colleges must provide enrolled learner protection. This means providers must have arrangements in place to protect you if the programme ceases prematurely. This could mean you complete the programme with another provider or have a portion of your fees and costs refunded.
Your letter of acceptance from the provider must clearly state that you are covered by learner protection arrangements. If the learner protection arrangements are through an insurance scheme, the provider must give you a certificate of proof of learner protection in your own name demonstrating that you are covered.
Fee protection is included in the full-time course fees at Liffey College.
LIFFEY COLLEGE HAS PRIVATE MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR LEARNERS?
Yes all non-EEA students coming to Ireland need to have private medical insurance. When you register your permission you will be asked to show proof of medical insurance.
Learners are required to have health insurance. It must be purchased prior arrival in Ireland.
Private medical insurance is a requirement for international learners to be granted a study visa/entry.
Medical coverage is included in the full-time course fees at Liffey College.

HOW DO I GET MY LETTERS FOR IMMIGRATION/GNIB (INIS)?
Liffey College will send you, your Letter of Enrolment & Medical & Fee Insurance Policies certificate by email after the induction.
The college will also be sending you other emails with important information related to your course, including your Final Exam, Study Start Date and Login Details to access the Liffey College Student Portal.

HOW DO I KNOW MY ENGLISH LEVEL?
English language learners are also required to take an online placement test to determine their level of proficiency. This is followed by an oral test to confirm each learner’s level.
After enrolment each learner will receive e-mails with information such as their level, study start date and class timing.
CAN I WORK IN IRELAND?
YES. Non-EEA students with Stamp 2 permission are allowed to take up casual employment.
They can work up to 20 hours a week, and
up to 40 hours a week during specific months: June to September inclusive and from 15 December to 15 January (subject to change).

HOW DO THE HOLIDAYS WORK? HOW MANY WEEKS OF HOLIDAYS CAN I REQUEST?
Please note: that by default all learners will have two weeks’ holidays at the start of their programme. The date indicated on the Letter of Acceptance is the date of the induction, not the first day of class.
Learners are entitled to 8 weeks of holidays (in addition to their 25 weeks of study) in total.
As the school is closed for 2 weeks over the Christmas period learners must take these 2 weeks as holidays if their course falls during this period.
Learners may request to take 1-2 weeks of holidays which can only be scheduled after 12 weeks of class. Holidays must start on a Monday and finish on a Sunday; no partial holidays can be granted. Holiday requests must be submitted online via their student portal, and learners should allow a minimum of 3 (three) working days for their request to be processed. In the meantime learners must follow their timetable. Learners returning from holidays cannot be guaranteed that they will return to the same classrooms (subject to availability).
Holidays will only be approved for learners who meet the 85% attendance requirement.

CAN I OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT? WILL THE SCHOOL GIVE ME A LETTER?
Liffey College is with Bank of Ireland, which no longer opens student bank accounts. However, it is easy to open a bank account with a European online bank such as Revolut, N26 or Leopay.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE TO ENROL AT LIFFEY COLLEGE?
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
DO I NEED TO HAVE A PASSPORT TO BUY A COURSE?
YES. The Learners will need to provide/upload the college with an electronic copy of their passport when filling out the online application form.
CAN I BUY MY GENERAL ENGLISH PROGRAMME DIRECTLY WITH LIFFEY COLLEGE?

WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
Course fees or instalments paid are STRICTLY NOT REFUNDABLE except under the following conditions:
FULL-TIME LEARNERS
In the circumstance that an international learner is refused either an entry visa or a study visa in Ireland.
If the course for which the learner has paid is cancelled by Liffey College with no other alternatives available.
PLEASE NOTE:
If a course fee is refunded, a college registration fee of €300 will be deducted from the total course fees paid.
Considering that choosing the correct programme of study is an important step, Liffey College assumes that a Learner would have made a thoughtful decision prior to applying for the course. No refund is granted for Learners who withdraw from a programme (prior to/shortly post commencement or during the programme). If a Learner has already started/completed part of their course at the time of the refund, the refund will be calculated pro rata.
If a learner requests to change their course dates after registration, a change fee of €300 applies.
The policy for course fee refunds and cancellations comes under Irish law, not that of the country from which payment has been made.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE FEES FOR THE GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE? DO I NEED TO PAY ANYTHING EXTRA?

Liffey College offers international learners an airport pick-up and drop-off service. Learners who wish to avail of this service should inform the college at least 4 weeks prior to their arrival, so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

CAN I CHANGE MY START DATE? DO I NEED TO PAY?
YES, you can change your start date, but we require a minimum of 10 weeks’ notice prior to your course start date and/or arrival date. New learners may change their start date for a period of one year from the date of purchase, free of cost.

Maximum of 15 students per class.
WILL MY CLASSES START ON THE SAME DATE INDICATED ON MY ENROLMENT LETTER?
No. Learners will start their classes 2 weeks after the date on the letter of accecptance.

Please Note: These 2 weeks are induction weeks and cannot be changed and will be deducted from the student’s total holidays.

WHAT IS THE CLASS SCHEDULE?
- Morning Classes – Monday to Friday (9:15am to 12:30pm) 15 hours (Full-Time / 25weeks). From 13/11/2023 morning schedule – 4 days (Monday to Thursday – 09:00 to 13:00)(subject to change)
- Afternoon Classes – Monday to Friday (1:45pm to 5pm) 15 hours (Full-Time / 25weeks) (subject to change)
CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE?
The full-time General English is 25 weeks in duration.
There are five levels:
- A1(Elementary)
- A2 (Pre-Intermediate)
- B1 (Intermediate)
- B2 (Upper-Intermediate)
- C1 (Advanced)
Learners normally complete 12 weeks in each level. As Liffey College operates on a continual enrolment basis, learners may not necessarily start the course in week 1 of the syllabus.
All classes regardless of levels are focused on developing the following language skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
The General English course also includes weekly Irish Culture classes and final exam (TIE) preparation.

WHAT IS ELMS?
ELMS is Liffey College’s unique interactive online learning platform based on Moodle and designed by Liffey College’s academic team. On ELMS you will have access to all of your course materials in one place so that you can easily track your progress, review material, submit assignments and homework, catch up if you missed any classes, as well as interact with your tutors and classmates online.
DO I NEED TO DO THE FINAL EXAM?
All full-time learners are required to sit a Final Examination at the end of their course (subject to their visa conditions). For this purpose examinations are run regularly.
All full-time General English programmes at Liffey College conclude in an English language exam that meets Immigration requirements.

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE FINAL EXAM?
The final exam we offer at present is TIE (Test of Interactive English).
During their course learners are required to prepare a logbook which must include the following three components: a news story, a book report, and an investigation/research project of the learner’s choice.
TIE preparation classes are incorporated into our General English programme. In addition to these we regularly offer extra TIE preparation workshops.

CAN I USE MY COMPUTER, TABLET OR PHONE IN THE CLASS?
Our General English programmes are delivered using the Liffey College online learning platform/ELMS. The platform is designed to track learner progress and enables learners to follow the lessons even if they miss class. Learners must have a functional device to access the online platform. A laptop or tablet is recommended.
DO I NEED TO PAY TO CHANGE MY CLASS TIME?
A learner who wishes to change their class time must complete a Learner Time Change Request Form. To request the time change please login using the link below: https://student.liffeycollege.ie/login

DO I NEED TO DO A TEST TO CHANGE MY LEVEL? HOW DO I CHECK MY PROGRESS?
Normally learners are expected to spend 12 weeks in each level.
Learners who wish to change their level should first speak to their tutor. Their tutor can then recommend them for a level change.
Most level changes will take place after the Week 6 and Week 12 Progress Tests. Tutors recommend learners to level up based on their test results.
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT
Learners at Liffey College are assessed on an on-going basis in order to continuously evaluate and record their progress throughout the duration of their time at the college. Liffey College operates a continuous assessment system to accommodate the learning needs of the learners completing long term courses (25 weeks).
WEEKLY PROGRESS REPORT
Leaner progress is monitored via the Weekly Progress Report completed by their tutor on a weekly basis. Learners will be able to view their individual feedback in their login/learner portal (https://student.liffeycollege.ie) and see whether they need more practice in their current level or if they have been selected to progress to the next level.
PROGRESS TEST – WEEK 6 AND WEEK 12
In addition to the Weekly Progress Reports, learners take a Progress Test every 6 weeks. Learners are tested on the material covered in the previous 6 weeks of class. The Progress Test is adapted from English File and is divided into six sections: Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking.
Learners access and complete all sections of the test electronically in their learner portal, with the exception of the Speaking. The speaking task is assigned by the tutor and may take the form of an in-class oral presentation, interview (one learner or more at a time), debate or discussion, etc.
Learners can view their Progress Test feedback and scores in their learner portal once their tutor has finished marking the tests.
ARE THE TEACHERS QUALIFIED?
YES. All of our teachers are fully qualified with a primary degree (Level 7) and recognised teaching certification (CELT, CELTA or equivalent) minimum.
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY COURSE FEE IF THE COLLEGE CLOSES DOWN?
In compliance with the Protection of Enrolled Learners (2012 Act, Part 6), Liffey College has learner protection arrangements in place with respect to all learners who have paid fees and enrolled on programmes of a duration of three months or more.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET SICK?
Full-time learners have medical insurance included in their course fees and which covers them in case of emergencies.
It is learners’ responsibility to keep the College informed on the first day of sickness and each day subsequently thereafter. Learners who are sick should not attend class especially when there is a risk to the health of other learners.
Learners who miss class due to injury or illness must obtain a medical certificate/note from their IRISH medical provider. This is particularly important for learners whose attendance is or will be brought lower than 85 % as a result of their absence(s). The medical certificate/note must contain the date and time of the illness and the medical professional’s confirmation of needed absence.

HOW CAN I CHECK MY ATTENDANCE? HOW IMPORTANT IS ATTENDANCE?
Learners can view their attendance online at any time while their classes are active and should contact the College if they suspect any errors in their attendance. To view your attendence please login using the link below: https://student.liffeycollege.ie/login

- Regular attendance and punctuality are an integral and crucial part of the learning process. Learners are expected to attend classes regularly so that they can successfully complete their programme of study.
- Liffey College requires a minimum attendance of 85% (eighty five percent).
- Any learner who misses too many classes without justification and cannot recover their attendance may face expulsion from Liffey College.

HOW DOES EXPULSION WORK?
Learners will face expulsion if they miss too many classes and fail to recover their attendance after receiving all the warnings as per the following DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE:
- Formal Verbal Warning (The learner will be contacted by telephone or by email in the event of a face-to-face warning not being possible.)
- 1- First Written Warning Via Email.
- 2- Final Written Warning Via Email.
- 3- Suspension and Appeal. Suspension does not mean that a learner cannot attend class; on the contrary they should attend 100% until they reach the required attendance of 85%. At the Suspension stage learners must submit a written Appeal via the online Appeal form in order to justify their poor attendance.
- 4 – Expulsion/Exit Letter. Should a learner, after receiving warnings up to and including Suspension, continue to fail to comply with college policies, the learner will be expelled from Liffey College. An Exit Letter will be sent to GNIB/INIS, with a copy sent to the learner. Liffey College views expulsion as the final stage, should a learner’s attendance, progress, and/or behaviour fail to adhere to our policies and codes.

HOW CAN I RECEIVE MY CERTIFICATE?
All learners are entitled to receive upon request a Liffey College certificate of completion at the end of their programme, except learners who have been expelled or who have not completed the course.
DOES THE COLLEGE HAVE AN EMERGENCY NUMBER?
