FEE Protection (PEL)

TrustEd Ireland and the Learner Protection Fund

Please note: Liffey College is an approved TrustEd Ireland provider recognised by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) – August 2026.

TrustEd Ireland and the Learner Protection Fund
  • Purpose: The Learner Protection Fund provides financial and academic protection to eligible learners. If a course or education provider ceases to operate, the fund is intended to support affected learners in completing their studies with another approved provider or receiving a refund of eligible fees.
  • Mandatory Contribution: Authorised English Language Education (ELE) providers are required to contribute to the relevant statutory learner protection arrangements.

As the TrustEd Ireland learner protection arrangements are not yet fully operational, Liffey College will continue to use the insurance provider and policy arrangements outlined above until the new QQI/TrustEd Ireland arrangements are fully implemented.

Once the TrustEd Ireland Learner Protection Fund and the associated PEL (Protection for Enrolled Learners) arrangements are fully operational, Liffey College will transition to the applicable QQI/TrustEd Ireland arrangements.

The cost of the new learner protection arrangements has not yet been confirmed and is therefore subject to change. Further information will be provided once the applicable costs and arrangements have been formally confirmed.

Protection for Enrolled Learners (PEL)

  • Liffey College has approval to offer learner course fee protection insurance (PEL). The purpose of this is to protect student course fees paid to Liffey College in the event of Liffey College becoming insolvent insolvent or is otherwise dissolved or loses accreditation during the period of insurance and a place at an alternative establishment is not available.

Please Note:
  • This insurance applies only to the unspent course fee and does not include extras (for example; college registration, medical cover, final exam, PEL, book and others, if applicable).
  • Students will get an individual certificate and details via email, as per this policy. If you have not received your certificate with 4 weeks of your course start date then you MUST contact the college immediately.
  • Students are advised to retain their individual certificate which will be required for reimbursement when claiming the unspent fees if such a situation arises.

Process to Obtain Policy Certificate:

Once a learner is enrolled at Liffey College, the college will apply for the learner’s policy through AcademyPlus via their online portal, providing the learner’s details, including the email address. The learner will then receive an email from AcademyPlus with attached files.
