Final Examination

All Full-Time General English programmes at Liffey College conclude in an external English language exam that meets Immigration requirements: TIE (Test of Interactive English).

Examination is mandatory to all full-time learners.

TIE is a learner-centred exam which is flexible, i.e., designed to recognise and accommodate the needs and interests of each learner whatever their level of English, age, cultural or educational background. The test is task-based with the content chosen by each individual learner and can therefore be used to assess learners with different needs and motivations.

TIE provides an assessment of a student’s general English level and certificates are awarded at all CEFR levels from A1 to C2. The tutors support the learner with the preparation for the exam on a weekly basis. Learners sit the examination at the college. For more information on the TIE click on the link: https://ielt.ie/

Upon enrolment non-EEA learners will receive a Final Exam booking confirmation e-mail with the date, level of their exam and thy will be notified of their respective examination timing 3/4 weeks before the examination date via email (Subject to Change).

TIE Examination fee is included in the overall course fee (Subject to Change). Should the learner need to re-register for the exam in case of failing the exam or failing to sit the exam, the fee to retake the test is €100 (Subject to Change).

To be able to take the exam, please print, fill in and sign the following form – TIE Candidate Application Form

It should be noted that some exam dates and times may have been scheduled outside the given time-frame of the programme. Learners are advised to contact the College at the time of registration should they require any change. No extension letters will be issued where exam dates are scheduled beyond the course dates.

Once a learner’s final exam has been booked it is not possible to change the exam date. Information about exam dates is made available on the college calendar, in the application forms at the time of registration, and in the application forms at the time of enrolment/during new learner induction. If any changes to exam dates are required, learners must communicate with the college during their induction and prior to enrolment.

All learners are entitled to receive upon request a Liffey College certificate of completion at the end of their programme, except learners who have been expelled or who have left the programme or did not sit the final examination.

Part-time learners enrolled in a programme of fewer than 25 weeks will still be eligible to receive upon request a Liffey College certificate of completion which will state their level and the duration of their programme.
