Sick & Covid Leave

Learners requiring planned sick leave or medical absence must inform the College of the intended absence as soon as possible.

It is learners’ responsibility to keep the College informed on the first day of sickness and each day subsequently thereafter. Learners who are sick should not attend class especially when there is a risk to the health of others. It is the learners responsibility to inform the college of all absences at the earliest possible and no later than the following week of the absence.

It is only by providing a medical certificate of absence that a learner can get Justified Absence. All medical certificates must be provided in a timely manner – i.e the same week. Late medical certificates may not be accepted. The college can request originals to be presented and reserves the right to have documents verified for authenticity. Providing fake documents and/or medical certificates may render a learner liable to immediate expulsion.

Learners who miss class due to injury or illness must obtain a medical certificate/note from their IRISH medical provider. The medical certificate/note must contain the date and time of the illness and the medical professional’s confirmation of needed absence. It is the learner’s responsibility to provide the College with all relevant documentation in a timely manner.

Please Note:

  • Providing fake documents and/or medical certificates may render a learner liable to immediate expulsion.
  • Producing a medical certificate will not result in the learner being marked present for the day(s) missed; rather, they will not receive warnings related to the absence(s).
Upon providing the medical certificate the learner will be determined to have valid reasons for missing class and the absence will be considered excused.
  • Learners must arrange non-acute medical services e.g., routine dentistry or physiotherapy outside college class hours.
  • Learners who continually miss class due to ongoing health issues should communicate with the College. Only in exceptional circumstances the College may accept documentation from the learner’s home country by prior written approval. In such cases the documentation must be provided in certified English translation.
  • Learners are obliged to provide correct details in the college application form with regard to medical conditions.
  • Liffey College does not excuse any work commitment related absences.

Covid-19

  • If the test is positive, the learner would generally be required to attend treatment or isolate for 5 days as per the medical provider’s recommendations. The learner will get attendance for the days covered by this documentation.
  • For all medical absences learners must provide documentation.
