How to get yourself started with speaking a language!

Think in English

You’ll constantly have to translate between languages if you think in your native tongue and then try to speak English. Translating is not an easy task! Even persons who are fluent in two or more languages have difficulty switching between them.

Thinking in English is the solution. You can do this anywhere, anytime.

When you’re thinking about your day or attempting to select what food to order, try to use English.

Try looking up words in an English-to-English dictionary. You’ll never have to use your native language to translate words again.

Speak, speak, speak!

Be self-assured and speak to as many individuals as possible! Make no apologies about making mistakes! The more you practice, the better and more confident your pronunciation and vocabulary will become. Remember that speaking is a skill, just like learning a musical instrument or a new sport; the only way to improve is to practice!

Talk to Yourself

When you’re at home (or somewhere else alone), you can practice English with your favourite person: yourself.

If you’re already thinking in English, try speaking your thoughts out loud. Also, read aloud.

Even if you don’t have someone to correct your mistakes, simply speaking out loud will help you feel more comfortable speaking English.
