Policy Statement Liffey College recognises its duty to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of its staff, learners, contractors and visitors. The College is committed to ensuring compliance with all health and safety legislation, promoting a proactive safety culture and reducing risks through prevention, awareness and continuous improvement. Liffey College will: ⮞ Conduct and regularly review risk assessments. ⮞ Provide appropriate safety training and instruction. ⮞ Ensure fire safety systems, first aid and emergency procedures are in place and understood. ⮞ Maintain safe working conditions and premises. ⮞ Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill-health. ⮞ Encourage staff and learners to report unsafe conditions. ⮞ Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents and near misses. ⮞ Ensure all stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities regarding health and safety. ⮞ Provide clear procedures for the reporting and management of health and safety concerns raised by learners, staff, visitors or contractors. This policy applies to all staff (including part-time, visiting and contract staff), learners, contractors, service providers and any visitors to the College premises. | |

Procedure To ensure that all staff and learners are protected from injury and ill health arising from College activities by implementing a step-by-step approach. Responsibilities: Centre Director – Manages safety systems, emergency procedures and compliance checks. All Staff – Must report hazards, follow procedures and participate in training. All learners – are expected to follow health and safety guidance issued during induction or displayed on campus. Visitors and contractors – must follow designated safety rules and are expected to cooperate with emergency protocols. First Aiders & Fire Wardens – Trained and designated. Process: 1 – Induction and Training – All new staff and learners must complete health and safety induction training. – Visitors and contractors receive a short health and safety briefing or information leaflet upon arrival. 2 – Risk Assessment – Conducted annually or when significant changes occur. – Risks to staff, learners and others are identified and controlled. – Results are documented and acted upon. 3 – Incident Reporting – All accidents, injuries and near misses must be reported to the Centre Director immediately. – Form submitted within 24 hours for documentation. – Incident log maintained by the Centre Director. 4 – First Aid & Medical Response – Trained first aiders are designated. – First aid kits are available and regularly checked. – Serious incidents will prompt immediate emergency services engagement. 5 – Fire Safety & Evacuation – Fire drills held at least twice a year. – Evacuation plans posted in all classrooms and offices. – Staff to assist in guiding learners during emergencies. 6 – Infectious Diseases Control – Staff, learners and contractors experiencing symptoms must inform their relevant contact (line manager, tutor, or College representative) and stay home. – Self-isolation procedures are followed for all affected individuals. 7 – Wellbeing Monitoring – Confidentiality in all health-related matters. – Staff encouraged to raise health concerns with the Centre Director. |
