Learner Counselling

LEARNER COUNSELLING

The College offers free counselling services in full confidence for learners facing any difficulty. This is sometimes done in conjunction with a contractor/partner, to whom cases are referred / outsourced, if required. Counselling addresses issues such as stress, anxiety, adjustment to college, personal development, grief and loss, relationship issues, gender issues, career, communication skills and personal crises.

Counselling sessions encourage learner independence, development of self-confidence and self-discovery, among other values. (QA7.2.1)

STUDY ASSISTANCE

We assist learners with the development of a long-term educational plan that includes academic as well as career goals.

To assist learners in advancing their English language proficiency, in their pursuit of further education qualifications and ensure that learners have the necessary skills to progress to higher education, a range of lessons have been developed to allow them to reflect on their current skills, learn new ones and make the best use of their credits. (QA7.2.2)

These include:

  • Final/End course examination preparation. TIE Preparation (end of the course examination): 1.5/1.8 hours weekly during class timings for a period of 10 weeks. This course will introduce students to the different components and tasks of the exam and prepare them to fully demonstrate their English skills on the day of the exam.
  • IELTS preparation. This is an additional examination preparation being run on students demand to help them improve their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills so that they give their best performance at their IELTS exam. Runs twice a month on Fridays at 13:00. Please note: This exam is not offered in our Liffey College centre. Therefore, examination payment and booking must done by students directly with a test centre.
